From idea to kick-off

At KVL, the Venue & Event team accompanies projects across their entire lifecycle – from feasibility studies through new build, conversion and refurbishment to the planning and delivery of major events. KVL brings together knowledge of structural requirements with hands-on experience of operating venues and events. This understanding is combined with interdisciplinary expertise to develop solutions that are functional, economically sound and reliably workable in day-to-day event operations.

KVL analyses technical and operational requirements, optimises the infrastructure and accompanies new build, conversion and refurbishment measures. Our operational experience ensures practical, economical and reliable solutions.

KVL records the technical condition of the venue, identifies refurbishment requirements and evaluates the necessary measures financially, complemented by a review of the documentation for completeness. One example is the technical assessment of the Dantestadion in Munich on behalf of the city as a basis for investment decisions.

KVL develops safety concepts that define responsibilities, processes, communication channels and staffing for emergencies. One reference project is the officially coordinated safety concept for the Munich venue at UEFA EURO 2020, prepared in close collaboration with police and regulatory authorities.

These include the DFB Cup Final 2026, the NFL Berlin Game 2025, the UEFA Champions League Final 2025, the UEFA Nations League Finals 2025 and UEFA EURO 2020. KVL draws on experience from numerous international major events such as World and European Championships and NFL games.

A mobility concept defines the requirements and measures for safe and smooth arrival and departure. It looks in particular at public transport, cars, coaches and pedestrian routes, as well as visitor routing and traffic flow. KVL coordinates closely with all parties and the authorities when preparing it, and developed the mobility concept for the UEFA Champions League Final 2025, among others.

KVL coordinates planning, construction sequences and participants so that schedules, costs and quality are secured while disruption to stadium operations is kept to a minimum. One example is the access concept for the Allianz Arena, where structural and operational requirements were aligned in a practical way.

Depending on requirements, KVL advises on the concept or takes on volunteer management entirely. We develop targeted recruiting strategies, define clear role profiles, create workable shift plans and establish reliable processes for smooth operations at the event. Our experience covers the use of various volunteer management software solutions as well as the planning, management and coordination of between 400 and 6,000 volunteers.

KVL works for well-known clubs, stadium operators and sports organisations. These include FC Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena, FC Schalke 04, VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, the Olympiastadion Berlin, the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena and the German Football Association. There are also projects for the NFL as well as assignments at international major events such as the UEFA Champions League Final and the DFB Cup Final. The area is led by Jochen Lerche, who has been advising clubs, operators and municipalities on the construction and operation of sports and event venues for more than 20 years.

A feasibility study examines whether a planned measure can be implemented technically, economically and within the intended timeframe. It assesses costs and risks and thus creates a sound basis for decisions by the responsible committees. On this basis, KVL produced the feasibility study on the capacity expansion of the Volksparkstadion, for example.
